Coriander is a popular spice. It comes from coriander seed that blossoms into bigger plant.
Another spice that is of similar dimension is white pepper. One of the difference is that coriander will give off pleasant aroma for food when cooked. Indonesian traditional meals that use coriander include chicken braised in coconut milk, beef curry, and kebuli rice.
It is best to keep coriander in tight container as not to release its aroma too early. Good coriander is usually not too bright in color as some people tend to bleach coriander making it too bright, and also not safe for human consumption.
